Former Government Worker Finds Success as Amazon Seller

One thing we can learn from Eric’s story, it’s that it’s never too late to try something new. Having been a government worker for more than 20 years, Eric felt like things had become stagnant. After a government shutdown kept him home without pay for a few weeks, he was ready to try something new. Finding Freedom Through the Amazon Marketplace

Eric first started selling on the Amazon marketplace in 2013 and he’s never looked back. That doesn’t mean that it hasn't been without challenges. After taking a training program, he says he “got lucky.” He picked a product and found a supplier who gave him tips on how to make the product sell better. The supplier even helped him create bundles and offered customized packaging. This was especially helpful since Eric had never even shopped on the Amazon marketplace prior to becoming a seller!

Unfortunately, this first success didn’t last. Competitors copied his product and began selling it for less. After dropping his own price from $35 to $12, Eric had to accept that the situation was no longer sustainable. “It wasn’t making any money anymore, and I had to figure out how to sell something different,” he said.

After regrouping and finding another product, Eric realized that he was struggling to keep items in stock. As a business owner, he was honest with himself about an area where he could use more support. “I was really bad at predicting when things were going to run out or when to place an order based on how long it took to get here,” he explained.
