Keeping Leading Zeros for Search Terms

When using UPC or EAN codes as search terms, the leading zeros must be included. However, when copying these search terms to Excel, leading zeros are automatically removed. This will create errors when uploading batches to MarketScout.

To keep the leading zeros, follow these simple instructions:

  1. In your Excel spreadsheet, highlight the column with the search terms.
  2. Click the number group and choose “Custom” in the Category list.
  3. In the “Type” box, type in the number of zeros that the ASIN, EAN or UPC should have with the leading zero. So, if you have a 12 digit number that should have 13 with the leading zero, type in 13 zeros. The MarketScout batch file format accepts ASIN (10), UPC (12) or EAN (13).
  4. Save your file as a CSV, then upload the file to MarketScout.
