Assuming you're using accounting software, the first step in the bookkeeping checklist is to decide what types of accounts you need. There are three main types of accounts in accounting. 1. **Assets:** These are accounts that represent the value of what your business owns. First, be sure to include all the direct costs associated with producing and selling your product.
